It’s human nature to want to feel secure and protected. So you automatically think that you should work for someone to avoid risks of losing money and things like that.
The reason why people don’t want to be self employed is because they think of the disadvantages and all hell brakes loose.
Since disadvantages is what keeps us away from becoming self employed, let’s talk about the disadvantages of working for someone.
I mean every single thing in life has positives as well as negatives… so working for someone must have disadvantages right?
Disadvantages of working for someone

Easily replaceable: Despite having less risks of losing money compared to being self employed, how can you guarantee security?
There are so many factors that can lead to you losing your job; Leaving for personal reasons, getting fired… you name it.
The truth of the matter is that once your let go, it’s a loss for you and not the company. They can find someone to replace you in an instant.
Fixed salary or wages: Having a cap on your wages comes to a huge disadvantage when things go wrong. There will be dark times where money is an issue. There are no extra hours available and your on your own to get through this.
Being on fixed wages means that your forced to work until retirement and have to live without being able to do the things you want in life.
You might as well kiss your bucket list goodbye if a lot of money is involved.
Missing out on life: Not being able to see your family and friends throughout most of your life is crazy. What is the point in living if your not able to create long lasting memories with loved ones?
I for one am not taking that risk. Fuck waiting until retirement and accepting that this is the norm and everyone has to go through this.
Working in a stressful environment: Working for a manager that treats you like shit or working with certain colleagues that your not really fond of is something you will have to go through on a daily basis.
So your telling me that we don’t deserve to enjoy our life and need to struggle in order to make some money?
You might think that if this is the case maybe I could change my job and hope to not have the same problem there. How can you guarantee that? 9 times out of 10 there will always be a shitty manager and shitty colleagues wherever you work.
I can literally go on and on with the disadvantages of working for someone. It might not be as long as some of you guys but 7 years of working in retail is long enough for me.
I don’t care how hard or what is to come, I’ll do anything to be able to have the freedom of choice in life.
Being self employed

It’s very rare that you can turn some negatives to positives when talking about certain things.
For example when working for someone being guaranteed that job until retirement is a negative that can’t be changed.
Let me bring up some of the disadvantages ‘ negatives’ that people think of straight away when talking about self employment.
Loss of money: Being afraid of losing money is normal, I mean we need money to survive right?
Losing money is something we are used to, aren’t we? An example would be when buying material things that aren’t needed but wanted.
Let’s talk about how losing money is a positive thing and is mistaken for a negative.
Being an entrepreneur you have to be prepared to lose money. It’s a learning curb, you realise what works and what doesn’t.
Experimentation is what being self employed is all about. 1 successful experiment takes care of all other failures. You will make back the money you lost.
Too old to start a business: It’s never too late. Even people that are close to retirement aren’t guaranteed a comfortable living.
Colonel Sanders the owner of KFC, started the business at the age of 65. Age is just a number. This is not a disadvantage or a negative, it’s just an excuse.
It doesn’t matter what age you are, the positives out weigh the ‘negatives’ when being self employed.
Don’t have the skills: When being introduced to something new whatever it may be, skill will come a long the way.
We learn whilst we do with anything in life not just business. How can you possibly see not having skills as being a disadvantage?
Think about how we learnt to walk. We learnt to crawl first. It’s all a step by step process and you know your progressing when your one step closer. Just like your one step closer to walking when you begin to crawl.
Why is self employment better than working for someone?
Things like missing out on your life, having a fixed salary/wages and being in a stressful environment are non existent for starters.
When it comes to being self employed, in my opinion there are no negatives. Negatives to me are positives because your learning and are that one step closer to success.
I like to call losses set backs and not failures.
With self employment, you have the opportunity to retire early. Financial freedom opens a whole new path and you can live with a freedom of choice.
Remember, your life is controlled by no one but yourself. Why wouldn’t you want this kind of lifestyle?
Talking about do you have what it takes to become self employed is a whole different ball game. This topic will be spoken about on my next blog.
